Plains view Villa
The client here sought to develop a get-away house on his up-country lot. The project attempts to create a dialogue between a somewhat classical site and a contemporary approach to the articulation of space.
First are the traditional spatial elements, such as the courtyard, the flat roof and the porch; built on a slope. Then, an open plan continuous space with a large glazed backyard facade that gives opportunities for natural lighting and vast views over the plains. The external space is lushly landscaped, with abundant lawns and a reflecting pool to complement it.
The material palette includes natural stone, hardwood and terracotta as the local or endemic materials, as well as exposed concrete, steel and glass as exotic materials. This mix not only expresses a formal idea that resonates with the client, but also a structural and constructive idea that defines this new place.
